Author: David Wismer
Shamrock Ranch constitutes one of the most picturesque
and pristine expanses of land in Colorado’s Pikes
Peak Country. At 2,586 acres, it is the largest tract of contiguous
undeveloped property in the Black Forest. This
full-color book explores in depth the rich history of this
unique ranch—which was first homesteaded in the
1860s—and the families that have lived there. Both historic
and modern-day photos complement the comprehensive
text. You’ll see the ranch’s thriving wildlife population, its
prize cattle, the champion American saddlebred horses that
once earned a national reputation, and of course, the stunning
landscapes of a property nestled into the transition
between the Rocky Mountains and the Great Plains.
Since purchasing the Shamrock Ranch in 1994, David Wismer has
been researching its unique and fascinating history. This book is
an accumulation of material acquired over that time period including
interviews with many relatives of the people who resided there
over the last century. Wisner was a former engineering professor at
the University of California at Los Angeles, and a successful business
executive. He has previously written several technical books.
